Precision Control: Mastering Your Site Flow with Page Rules 🎯
Social proof is most effective when it is intentional. Page Rules give you the power to go beyond "one size fits all" notifications. They allow you to surgically control the behavior, timing, and position of Fomo, ensuring your social proof always supports the sale without getting in the way.
While other features like Flows help you organize the order of your messages, Page Rules give you unique power over the user interface allowing you to move or hide Fomo exactly when and where you need to.
Why Page Rules are a CRO Powerhouse:
- The "Quiet" Checkout: Easily hide notifications on payment pages to keep customers 100% focused on finishing their purchase.
- UI Harmony: Move notifications on specific pages so they don't block important things like "Add to Cart" buttons or Live Chat bubbles.
- Mobile Excellence: Create specific rules for mobile users to ensure a clean experience on smaller screens.
How to Build a Page Rule
Step 1: Access the Dashboard
Navigate to the Page Rules tab on your Fomo Dashboard. This is your command center for site-wide display logic. To begin, click + Add Page Rule.

Step 2: Set Your Condition (The "When")
Select what part of the site you want to target (e.g., URL Path, Home Page, Mobile Browser) and your Operator (e.g., Equals, Contains, Begins With).
- Targeting Multiple Pages: You don't need the whole URL just the relevant part. To target several pages at once, separate them with a comma.
-
-
Example: To hide Fomo on both your about and contact pages:
URL Path->Contains->/about-us, /contact-us.
-
-
The "AND" Logic: You can add a second condition by clicking the option to add more. Remember, this is an AND condition. Both conditions must be true for the rule to trigger.
-
Advanced: CSS Selectors: You can apply rules based on CSS Selectors. This is incredibly powerful for hiding or showing Fomo based on whether a cart drawer, page overlay, or popup is currently visible to the user.(Find out how here)
Step 3: Choose the Action (The "Rule")
Select what should happen when your conditions are met. This is where Page Rules show their unique strength:
-
Notifications: Hide Fomo (perfect for checkouts) or Show Only If Condition Met.
-
Template Filtering: Use Only Show Template or Do Not Show Template to show specific proof (like reviews) on specific pages.
-
Behavior & UI: Toggle Loop Notifications, decide if Links open in a new tab, or change the Desktop/Mobile Position to keep your site layout clean.
Step 4: Finalize the Value
After picking your action, the final Value box will adapt:
-
If you chose Only Show Template, it will show a list of your Active/Enabled templates for you to pick from.
-
If you chose a position or timing rule, you’ll enter those specific details here.
Step 5: Save
Once your logic is set, click the Save button in the top right corner of your screen.
💡 Pro-Tip: The Order of Priority
Rules are applied in the order they are created. This is important to remember if you have contradictory rules.

Example: If you create a Rule that hides Fomo on all URLs containing
/product, and then later create a Rule that shows Fomo on a specific product URL, the first rule (the "Hide" rule) will take priority because it was created first. Always check your list of rules to ensure the logic flows in the order you intended and they don't overlap.
⚠️ Page Rules vs. Flows: Choosing the Right Tool
Page Rules and Flows are different tools for different jobs. While they are both powerful, you should avoid having them target the same URL with conflicting logic to prevent "logic ruptures." Take me to Flows guide.
| Feature | Page Rules (UI & Behavior) | Flows (Ordering & Sequencing) |
| Best For | Hiding Fomo, changing position, or timing. | Organizing a specific sequence (A, then B, then C). |
| Unique Power | Modifies how it looks (Position, Delay, Loop). | Controls exactly which order proof appears. |
| Advanced | Can target CSS selectors (Cart drawers, etc.). | Per-page selection and sorting. |
🚀 CRO Strategies to Try Today
-
The "Overlay" Cleanup: Use a CSS Selector rule to Hide Fomo whenever your email signup popup or cart drawer is open. This ensures your social proof never covers up other important calls-to-action.
-
The Checkout Shield: Set a rule to Hide Fomo on any URL Path containing
/checkout. This removes distractions during the most sensitive part of the funnel.
- The Mobile-First UI: Use the Mobile Browser condition to change the Mobile Position. This ensures you don't cover up the "Add to Cart" button on small screens.
