How to activate geo-targeting
Social proof research shows a recommendation has more influence when it comes from a peer vs a stranger.
Makes sense! You're more likely to trust your neighbor's stamp of approval than that judgmental 1-star Yelp review.
Geography is one of the ways we help differentiate peer vs stranger on your behalf.
How does it work?
Our geocoding feature pings geocode.fomo.com to determine visitor location. Then, we show off the notifications with location data closest to the visitor's location.
So New York visitors will see notifications for behavior happening in New York.
How to enable the Geo-targeting
Just go to Settings > Advanced > toggle on "Use geo-targeting for events" > press the green "save" button. That's all!:
Troubleshooting
Note that geo-targeting is not available for the integrations that do not have location data.
You can check if the specific integration you've connected has location data by going to Events > filter by Template (select the template for your integration):
Then hover over an Event > click "Edit":
If you see values for city, state and country, then you should be able to use geo-targeting!
No values for city/state/country but see a value for IP address?
If you see a value for IP address but not city/state/country, you're in luck -- there's a way to extract location data from the IP address! First, find your Template:
Click "Advanced" >> toggle on "Extract location data from event IP addresses":
Going forward, city/state/country data should be generated from the IP address for each Event. As long as you've enabled Geo-targeting (as described above in this article), you should be set!

What if I connected integrations both on and off this list?
Events with location data close to the visitor's location will be displayed first. Then, your other Events are shown according to the Fomo Settings you've set up within Settings > Timeline and within Settings > Limits
