How avatars work

How Fomo derives customer avatars.

We're proud to support avatars in your Fomo notifications.

How it Works

1. Most integrations (Shopify, Mailchimp, etc) include an email address for each of your purchases or opt-ins.

2. Fomo leverages several public services to convert these emails into avatars.

3. If an avatar isn't found, Fomo includes a "fallback" image, which defaults to a random color and your customer's initial (see example), or you can upload your own.

Enabling / Disabling Avatars

Sometimes, connecting a new Fomo integration immediately includes avatars. This config may be disabled or enabled at any time.

While logged into Fomo, navigate to Notifications, locate the template you'd like to modify and click 'edit'. Then, select the Image tab:

Scroll down to Dynamic to manage avatar support:

Removing Customer Initial "Fallback" Avatars

If you prefer not to show a colored image with your customer's initials, but you want to continue including avatars when they're found successfully, simply upload a default image to your template from Template > Edit > Image > Default Image URL.

Then, whenever Fomo can't create a headshot avatar of your customer, the default image will be shown instead.

Miscellaneous Questions

I enabled avatars, but my existing Events look the same.

Avatars are currently only applied to new data, if you activate avatars after connecting an integration.

However, we're happy to manually import avatars for your last 50-100 events, just ping us on live chat or email hello@fomo.com.

I disabled avatars, but my existing Events still have them.

Similar to the above, avatars are static content that don't change by enabling/disabling. You can remove or replace avatars in existing events by going to your Events feed, locating the event(s) in question, and clicking 'edit'.
